Kimmerly Messick now showcases her trendy and affordable styles in four convenient locations

BETHANY RESORT FURNISHINGS, Bethany Beach
“Making the Beach More Beautiful — One Home at a Time”

Acquired by Kimmerly Messick in 1995, Bethany Resort Furnishings in Bethany Beach boasts 12,000 sq. ft. of exquisitely coordinated vignettes. BRF showcases furniture, art and accessories designed to galvanize the potential of anything from the condominiums used for rentals and family beach homes to the grandest mansion, making it the one destination for all your home-furnishing needs.

BRF has earned its valued status as one of the premier businesses of its kind by virtue of multiple factors. One such factor is their coveted design center, which stands as one of the area’s most innovative and colorful. Every inch of showroom space has been meticulously planned and organized to accommodate BRF’s oceanic furniture inventory, which has come to represent the very quintessence of the casual lifestyle at the beach.

Another factor contributing to BRF’s unmatched success over their 18-year history comes in the form of their dedicated staff, most of whom have been with the company for many years. One such staple of the organization is interior designer Michael Denofrio, who is well-known in the community for his showcases of model homes (including his latest work, which is currently on display at the opulent Gateway Grand in Ocean City) and his many satisfied clients. Designers Karin Hansen and CindyRae Myers, meanwhile, have also made their aesthetic impact on the community, each having enjoyed eight years’ tenure with the company. Last year, Michael, Karin and CindyRae were joined in the design center by Amy Katz and Gail Davis, who developed their design skills on the sales floor. Most members of this unique cadre of design talent are trained and certified by the Interior Design Society.

The result is a network of professionals who can have your room or home completed in less time than any similar business in the area and exceed your expectations. With $3 million in inventory to draw from, BRF is both equipped and accustomed to taking on a home-redecorating project on a Monday and having the space ready for their clients to enjoy by the weekend.

Whether it’s an entire home or just one room, the BRF design team is available to inspire you while assisting with all your decorating decisions — all within your budget. In fact, this dedicated coalition of professionals can help you furnish your entire home for as little as $12,000. With packages that include furniture, window treatments, accessories, art, lamps, towels, linens and specialty painting, the possibilities are endless. The BRF design team will gladly take care of every last detail of your decorating needs absolutely free of charge!

Finally, Kimmerly and her team attend six to eight furniture expos each year in order to acquire the industry's latest and greatest in emerging trends. One thing’s for sure: There’s always something new and exciting going on at Bethany Resort Furnishings. To see what’s new and cutting edge in resort decor, visit their vast showroom in Bethany Beach. Their hours are Monday through Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 10:00 a.m.
to 4:00 p.m.

DONAWAY FURNITURE, Ocean City
“Donaway Does It All”

When Bethany Resort Furnishings’ owner Kimmerly Messick saw the ideal opportunity to expand her highly successful business deeper into Worcester County, the savvy entrepreneur didn’t hesitate. Now, the well-established Donaway Furniture on 130th St. in Ocean City is officially part of the BRF family.

Donaway’s first opened its doors in 1954 as a small furniture store in Berlin. Over the years it became known not only for its retail sales but also for furnishing model homes and for its many successful hotel and timeshare sales, and family-owned hotel projects.

Through the many facets, style trends and changing economies over the years, Donaway’s always remained strong and steady largely due to a constant named Vernon Davis. With an amazing 46-year tenure, Vernon ultimately assumed the role of Donaway’s de facto patriarch, respected as much for his reliable judgment and vast experience. Under his leadership, with guidance from Billy Esham, they expanded the small furniture store into a successful community staple.

They sold furniture, window treatments, flooring — residential and commercial — and stayed true to servicing old customers and hotels, from replacing old sleeper mechanisms and mattresses to redoing an entire project. But even Vernon couldn’t do it completely alone. He is assisted by talented associates such as Cindy Deck, who does window treatments, carpets and flooring, Sandi Hastings, who helps with orders and contract sales, and Ruan Harbour and Judy Rives, who are integral members of the Donaway sales team. They are rounded out with in-house designer Jamelle Showell, who’s enjoyed plaudits for model-home projects in the Gateway Grand. She also works one-on-one with clients for design projects at the beach.

Making the transition a success is due to BRF's long-term management team, including Dawn Smith, CFO Janet Keiser, Keith Nichols, the enclyclopedia of furniture, merchandising and purchasers Debbie Minner and Rachel Linkswiler, along with their awesome delivery and warehouse team, under the supervision of Bobby Shaw, window treatment department manager Joe Andrews and marketing expert Kelly Willis. The savvy duo of Margaret Kelso and Keiser helped Kimmerly transition Donaway Furniture into her business family. The combination of the BRF team and Donaway team stays true to the vision of Billy Esham’s motto, “Donaway does it all.”

So, have a cup of coffee and relax in their large selection of recliners and chairs. Have fun getting your photo taken in their large chair, enter their three bicycle giveaways this summer and grab some sunshine on the largest display of outdoor furniture on the deck.

Donaway Furniture is open 7 days a week, Monday-Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

BRF CLEARANCE CENTER, Fenwick Island
“Rock-Bottom Prices”

Now in its fifth season, Bethany Resort Furnishings’ clearance center is more popular than ever. It was managed by Kimmerly Messick’s younger brother, Kevin Messick, who now divides his time between Donaway and the clearance center. He possesses the family genes for passion about furniture and sales skill.

This is where you go to find just about anything you’re looking for to complete your home or condo. Perhaps you need just a nightstand, lamp or some art; the clearance center has it. Maybe it’s a dining set you’re after; well, they’ve got them, too, all at rock-bottom prices. They also have a great selection of sleeper sofas in many different fabrics and colors.

You’ll find many one-of-a-kind items, discontinued pieces, slightly imperfect ones, along with clearance and closeout merchandise. When Bethany Resort Furnishings or Donaway’s closes out their floor models or no longer has a complete set of something to sell, they send these items to the clearance center. The result is a carefully conceived diamond in the ruff, a no-frills treasure trove chock-full of amazing discoveries.

The clearance center also stocks the most affordable bedroom sets and mattresses to be found at the beach. For example, you can purchase a five-piece bedroom grouping (consisting of a bed, dresser, mirror and two nightstands) for as little as $799! Now, for just $399 more, complete that grouping with a queen-mattress-and-box-spring set.

New merchandise arrives at the clearance center on a daily basis (which, when combined with its escalating popularity,
explains why the center has already doubled in size since its inception), but the largest shipment comes in every Tuesday. The clearance center is open 7 days a week, Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
