Ruark Golf’s prestigious GlenRiddle Golf Club was once home to a pair of horse racing’s all-time greats. Now, you can call it your home club and reap all of its amenities thanks to a legendary membership offer

Each of the Ruark Golf courses is unique, but none can match the history of GlenRiddle. The former Riddle Farm was home to the legendary 20th-century thoroughbreds whose names grace its two courses: Man o’ War and his son War Admiral, winner of the 1937 Triple Crown.

The farm’s century-old stables and track, once abandoned and derelict, have been meticulously reclaimed and renovated. Today, the Berlin facility houses the club restaurant, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, as well as club offices, pro shop and an upscale locker room with sauna and showers.

Joining GlenRiddle gives golfers access not just to the parkland War Admiral course, and the links-style Man O’ War, but also Ruark Golf’s other sought-after courses. For just the price of a cart fee, you can play Nutter’s Crossing in Salisbury, and Rum Pointe and The Links at Lighthouse Sound in Ocean City. Dues are prorated the first year.

“Essentially, you’re a member at five golf courses. That is one of the best deals in the country,” said GlenRiddle golf director Scot Dailey, formerly of Lighthouse Sound. “Our competitors can’t offer anything like that.”

Ruark Golf’s courses are among the best-maintained in the area, offering stunning bayside views, and include the nation’s longest cart bridge, at Lighthouse Sound. “There’s none more manicured than the four we own. They are the elite,” Dailey said.

Ruark Golf is now waiving its initiation fee for membership and offering a five-percent discount on annual dues.

GlenRiddle also offers a locals’ rate of $45 for residents of Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset and Sussex counties (Man O’ War only, after 10 a.m.) The driving range and the locker room both have a members-only area. Private lessons are available from teaching pro Greg Loniewski.

But membership isn’t just for golf. Harking back to its horse-training heritage, GlenRiddle also offers member parties for each of the three Triple Crown horse races, as well as couples’ events, club championships and the all-important Christmas party.

For newcomers to the game, GlenRiddle started a “foot golf” program last fall. It’s played with a soccer ball and 21-inch holes. The club also offers junior golf clinics, for kids 5-14, starting June 15.

“Attention to detail, pro shop apparel, member events, the Ruth’s Chris experience — I don’t know that you can beat that in the area,” Dailey said. “From customer service to the quality of the courses, all of our pro shops are top-of-the-line, multi-vendored facilities. We carry pretty much everything and nothing but the best.”
