With a beautiful new boat bar and a rousing roster of fun summer events, The Angler continues to be one of Ocean City's must-see hot spots
At 76 years and counting, Captain Bill Bunting’s Angler is the longest-running family-owned-and-operated restaurant in the Ocean City area. But achieving such an esteemed status requires more than just the fresh fish you’ll find there on a daily basis; it requires some equally fresh and innovative thinking.
Thanks to the major renovations current proprietors Jayne and Julie Bunting completed last year in commemoration
of the restaurant’s 75th anniversary,
The Angler is more than ever a destination hot spot rather than a mere eatery.
One feature that is really attracting a lot of attention these days is The Angler’s amazing new boat bar. Fashioned after a Chris Craft out of rich sapele wood, the 100-seat space immediately became a magnet for locals, with tourists and visitors getting the word not long afterward. To convey the feeling of sitting around a boat that has just docked, there is a center flying bridge that is not only realistic but functional. The Angler’s full menu is available at both the bar and the surrounding high-top tables, where patrons may also drink in breathtaking views of Assawoman Bay as vessels cruise languidly under the Route 50 bridge.
“Johnny Oliver Builders just did an incredible job in realizing our vision,” said Jayne, “and our patrons just can’t seem to get enough of it. This masterpiece of craftsmanship truly must be seen to be appreciated.”
No doubt the boat bar’s popularity is reinforced by the The Angler’s robust happy hour, which runs from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week. Live entertainment from Wednesday through Sunday, meanwhile, is sure to pique the fun and lively ambiance even more.
If all that weren’t spirit-lifting enough, The Angler is also the launch pad for an array of water-sport activities, including their ever-popular Angler party boat with daily offshore bottom-fishing excursions and famous after-dinner cruises.
The Angler is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner from May to October.
